Winter and its effects on our Immune Systems

November 23, 2016

Thinking about your home's indoor air quality in Bohemia.  In the winter months humidity levels are key to your health and comfort. Colds, flu, and dry sinuses and infections are all symptoms of our bodys depleted immune systems. In the winter the #1 culprit is lack of humidity. Our immune systems function best with the right levels of humidity. We should not wait for what the weather forecast tells us will happen. Weather physically and emotionally can affect our well being. When you have Arthritis and you hear of rain and /or precipitation  the forecast, you already know about this. What you also need to know is humidity has a similar effect inside our homes, from flooring to kitchen cabinets to crown moldings, to wood doors. You can properly control the level of humidity in your homes environment.
Proper humidity is definitely a balancing act. Too much humidity and you can see windows condensate. Too little humidity, throats are scratchy, sinuses are dry and wood can and will begin to crack. All this is not good. However, with a professionally installed central humidification system, you can keep the humidity at proper levels.
What are proper moisture levels with humidifiers in Huntington? Though these vary with changes to outdoor temperatures, humidity levels should be at a minimum between 35% and 50% relative humidity for comfort.  More importantly, for your immune system's health, and an environment resistant to allergens and maintaining the health of your custom wood work home in King Park in the winter, humidity levels between 45% and 50% are optimum. Why suffer, when a system can be installed in 1 day or less.
If your home is too humid, (basements are a prime culprit) we can install a whole home
dehumidifier bringing the humidity down to healthier and more comfortable levels.

These professionally installed systems are simpler to use and much lower maintenance than home improvement store purchased single room products.

Whatever the weather, humidity is always in your home. Indoor air quality is a major concern for our Long Island customers and humidity is a critical component of indoor air quality.

Renewable Energy is now More Affordable Than Ever.

You may have heard of Geo Thermal Heat Pumps.  A short  video explaining this technology is below.

http://www.truemech.com/Services/Geothermal.aspx

Geo thermal is your #1 option for renewable energy. The efficiency ranges from more than
100- 300% than today's central HVAC systems in its ability to heat and cool your home.

The federal government is offering 30% federal tax credit and utility companies are averaging 8-12000  per 2000 sq ft home. The benefits are many,  great rebates and significant monthly reductions in your utility bills. For many, reducing your utility costs by up to 75% and making your home so much more comfortable.

This is the year to take advantage before the change in administrations, and these systems are becoming more affordable than ever in Bohemia, Huntington Massapequa and Wantagh for home owners.

Remember, renewable energy high efficiency equipment carries 30% federal tax credits in Smithtown as well as local PSEGLI and state rebates.

These Geo thermal units produce 3 to 4 dollars in energy for every 1 dollar spent in utilities.  If  we can assist you further in this decision, please call Brian Nagle at True Mechanical 631-563-1298 or email him at brian@truemech.com. Protect your Central Air Investment

9/19/2016   11:20AM DST

Fall is Coming Protect your Investment

Fall is arriving shortly. It is time to get your Central Air Conditioner ready for the off season.

Unfortunately, we get a lot of call regarding systems that are just 10-12 years old. These typically originate because customers are calling after something breaks. We then find out they have never been serviced. You spend significant capital, 10 thousand or more for a new or replacement system, The 3 most valuable words I can recommend; Have It Serviced.

1) Have a professional Tune Up of your Equipment. They will check all connections, clean coils and change filters. Pressures are checked to maintain proper levels, preventing premature wear and tear

2) Keep the area clear of leaves and debris. The outdoor units are designed for all weather but branches falling, leaves things preventing the proper operation all contribute to shorter operating life and sub par performance of the equipment. A safe perimeter is 2-3 feet around the outdoor condenser.

3) Think about adding foam covering of exterior exposed pipes, helping to prevent freezing.Freezing can burst pipes, especially where connections have been braised together.

Call True Mechanical for a free survey of your equipment. Proper servicing of your equipment can add 30-50% to the lifespan, lower your energy costs, and reduce your carbon footprint. .

Here are some manufacturers videos showing how the industry has embraced technology improvements and innovations.

Three important benefits of including HVAC in your spring cleaning

March 23, 2016 9:55 AM

Spring cleaning can overwhelm the average homeowner, especially if you would rather be outside doing fun things. One area that is often neglected by homeowners is the indoor air quality. Many homeowners do not understand the importance of annual HVAC maintenance. This should be a yearly priority to include AC in your to do list for the season.

1. Indoor air Allergens

Its allergy season, and many allergens lay dormant over the winter in your duct work. Having a quality air cleaner with the media changed annually will help your allergies in a big way.  Ask about MERV ratings. The higher the MERV rating the smaller the size allergen gets eliminated from the air you breathe. It is best to consult with your professional HVAC contractor on the appropriate filtration and maintenance for your home.

2. Penny Wise and Pound Foolish

HVAC by its very nature is mechanical. You wouldn't expect to drive a car for 40 thousand miles without an oil change. Proper maintenance extends the useful life of your automobile. It also extends the useful life of your HVAC system. While it is an expense, this can easily add  significant life before your next replacement. Annual maintenance improves system performance, thus lowering annual energy costs.

3. Scouts Motto:  Be prepared.

Your system runs round the clock during the summer months. The hotter the day, the longer the system runs . You want to head off the chance that your system fails on the hottest, most humid day of the summer. Annual maintenance can identify future issues before they become major or cause system failure. While things happen due to unforeseen circumstances, your can reduce the likelihood by more than 90%. By servicing annually, you can also plan for the day when you want to upgrade the higher efficiency systems manufactured today.

Winter is back with a vengeance

Consider the new technology and save money at the same time.

New Technology Cold Climate Heat Pumps.

Heat Pumps use electricity as its energy source. The new high efficiency heat pumps can deliver up to $3 of heat for $1.00 of electricity used.
To the uninitiated, heat pumps use outside air and are used for both heating and cooling of your home,  transferring heat between the outside air and inside air. (reverse of  air conditioning process).
In the warmer months, the heat pump works as an air conditioner, removing heat from the air inside your home and transferring it outside.
During colder months, heat from outdoor air is moved into the inside air of your home.
Heat Pumps today can pull heat even down to below zero degrees, making them acceptable to climates where the temperature drops below freezing. Previous generations of heat pumps needed auxiliary heat souce.

Heat pumps  maintain temperature and humidity levels your home all year long. With the new technology, these can work without backup to single digit temperatures. If  you own a home in in an area with severe temperatures you may need supplemental heating  or keep your existing heating system as a backup.
Your heat pump system pulls the air from throughout your home running the air through either the return in a central system or each indoor unit in a ductless system. In either case new air filtration improves the air quality throughout your home, removing airborne allergens. By running  the system, you will reduce the opportunity for colds and flu viruses to settle on surfaces where they can transfer to you or your family,.

The noise levels of these new generation systems continue to get quieter.  The indoor noise level is similar to what you have in the summer. The condenser is still located outside and the inside noise is what the blower fan produces which is much lower than a furnace. .
