The age old question of When to Repair or Replace my HVAC equipment in Suffolk County or Smithtown

.Think about key factors being safety, age of equipment and the cost and frequency of repairs.
   
 1) Your heating equipment just went down and cannot be repaired.
  This is perhaps the worst time to make this decision.  If you have a warm air furnace, you may have a cracked heat exchanger, and leaking carbon monoxide. This is a life or death issue. You have a boiler and the combustion chamber is no longer functional and the boiler burnt through. This is another life or death issue.

2)  The equipment is old. The efficiency of today's equipment is much greater. If you can save on utilities, now is a great time to think about replacement systems.  To give this a frame of reference, If you heating equipment is over 15-20 years old, and in good working order, repair may still make sense. If you are doing repairs frequently, replacement offers peace of mind.If you equipment is 20 years or more, begin to think replacement .

3) If the equipment requires frequent repairs and you are spending more money every year,  the newer higher efficient equipment can pay for most or all of your investment.
