Warmer Weather Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Issues

As this winter has been very mild, most of us are using our heating systems infrequently in Nassau and Suffolk counties.  Infrequent use can lead to CO ( carbon monoxide) poisoning

Bohemia, Smithtown, and the surrounding area have a number of homes with gas heating systems. As these systems age, both the heat exchanger and chimney are prone to wear. The heat exchanger cracks due to metal fatigue, and the chimney mortar takes the form of cracking and begins to allow air back into the house creating a phenomenon known as negative draft. Being exposed to carbon monoxide can have serious effects on children and adults alike. This can be deadly. Poisoning from carbon monoxide has taken the lives of entire families in our area. This is heartbreaking on a number of levels, especially since it is preventable.  Carbon monoxide detectors are inexpensive and they work. Installed near the heating equipment, kitchen and gas dryer areas, and lastly near the bedrooms. CO is invisible and odorless and  cause death in less than a few hours. That’s the problem. Educate yourself on the dangers, and the solutions. Please have your heating, hot water heater, gas stove and gas dryer checked for (CO) Carbon monoxide leaks. Buy CO detectors with digital readouts, so you can see the CO saturation levels. If you register CO in the house( that is an immediate problem) , shut the gas and evacuate the house. You can air the house out later, but not if it blows up. Call the gas company right away. Call a reputable HVAC company that can get you up and running safely and quickly. True Mechanical has been helping homeowners in Nassau and Suffolk for over 35 years.

Note: This is not a You Tube DIY repair.
